Stanev Potts was engaged to add a much needed full service cocktail bar to an existing high end amenity space at FMC Tower in Philadelphia.  Working in an open seating area that multitasks as a lounge, elevator lobby and vestibule to an expansive outdoor terrace, the challenge was to fit a highly functional bar area with ample storage for functionality, while creating a set of details and materials that would tie together the various sets of elements already present.

A custom bar shape was designed that would meet the clients vision of a surface that feels like a hybrid between a traditional bar, a meeting table, and a piece of custom furniture.

Existing select grain veneer already in place in the space was matched and used in conjunction with white marble, aluminum leaf, and internally lit shelving.  To protect the bottles during non-business hours, a 12’ wide custom motorized Lutron shade was carefully detailed to seamlessly open and close, while allowing the up lit bottles and aluminum leaf to glow through a charcoal black sheer fabric. This would allow everything to stay in place 24/7 without needing to be put away overnight.

The Phillip Stark designed Masters Barstool, which represents a intertwining of iconic chairs from Jacobsen, Saarinen, and Eames, was a nod to the various design schemes intersecting already in the space.  Cast glass lighting fixtures complete the space by supplementing the glow coming off the floor to ceiling softly glowing bottle shelving.
